Tamara Wight Baskets

Traditional and Sculptural Basketry

Vermont Wetlands

I created this basket for an exhibit at the Vermont Statehouse in Montpelier, Vermont.  The theme of the exhibit is "Legislation as a Source of Art." This piece was inspired by Act 64, the Clean Water Act.

My artwork is all about nature. I like working with wood and my baskets are collaborative between me and the wood. “Vermont Wetlands” incorporates a piece of root found by the lake in Brookfield and a flying “wing” of driftwood given to me by a friend. A softly shaped basket, woven from hand dyed deep blue reeds emerges from the root, reaching up to the wing, seeming to bring water and sky together.

The exhibit will run through April 4, 2016. There is a reception on March 29, 2016 - on Arts Advocacy Day.
